All I can say is that this particular tool has come in REAL handy in the month that I’ve owned it. From cutting through wood with nails (deck expansion) to cutting off LARGE branches from a tree(s) that fell in my yard after a storm (and onto my car!), this tool has been used extensively.
The battery life of the 3 amp hour lithium ion battery is amazing! The durability of the saw is impressive in that most of the environments I’ve used it in have been dirty and wet, yet the saw works like it did when it was new. Only it’s transformer looks now have blended in with the dirt.
I actually like the looks of the drill in that conveys that the tool can wreck some damage! Or just plain cut a lot of stuff up without having to worry about running out of juice.

Hitachi reciprocating saw is excellent – Still Working – Allentown, Pa
This is an excellent product. It has a great grip and is easy to handle. Has a nice balanced weight to it
Hitachi 18v lithium ion – T. Pendergast –
Absolutely the best tool for the money. I considered all brands, but I am glad I made the Hitachi choice. I had a dead white pine in my yard that was about 30 feet tall. With 1 battery I was able to cut it down to about a 7 foot stub. Unbelievable that such a small battery could deliver so much power.
I aslo own the Hammer Drill that came with reciprocating saw. This is a great tool as well.
Highly reccomend, you will not be sorry. I also own the Dewalt 36v hammerdrill and 7 1/4 circular saw. The saw is great but very heavy. I never used the drill because the Hitachi is good. The only negative is the Hitachi tool color and design look very junivelle, however they clearly make up for it with quality.

Hitachi C10RA3 15 amp 10-inch Benchtop Table Saw with Stand Specifications
Hitachi’s third-generation 10-inch jobsite table saw replaces their old C10RA2 model, and the changes made a great saw better.
After about a half-hour of assembly, you’ll notice first that there’s now more room to rip: The telescoping table extension gives you 24-1/2 inches of ripping capacity to the right and 10 inches to the left. And we can’t figure out how they made it lighter, but they did, and without sacrificing power. It draws 15 amps and produces a whopping 5,000 rpm, enough to slice through anything you feed it. It runs beautifully with virtually no vibration; it’s direct drive, of course.
Since you’re shopping for a jobsite saw, you know you’re not going to get a Biesemeyer-quality fence, but we have to say we really like the one on this machine. It’s sturdy, self-aligning, moves super smoothly along its rails and locks down easily and very securely with a beefy handle. Hitachi also gets points from us for predrilling holes for any auxiliary fence you might want to use. The blade height wheel is on the front, and the bevel handwheel is on the right-hand side. The scale and pointer, though, are up front, along with the bevel lock. Both wheels operate smoothly and without hiccups. Be aware, though, that when you tilt the blade to 45 degrees and you’re using the miter gauge, the gauge’s handle will bump into the blade guard. It doesn’t cause a problem, but users should just be forewarned.
We like the self-aligning metal rip fence for its stability, the quick-lock feature and how cleanly it slides. Should you need to realign, the process is fast and simple. The miter gauge is rock-solid and runs without play in the slots, and both pieces store neatly on the saw base along with the wrench, push-stick, power cord, dado insert and blade for transport and keeps them in easy reach for use. The stand is sturdy and we like the leveling foot on one leg to compensate for rugged ground at the jobsite or an uneven shop floor. To keep mess to a minimum, hook up your shop vacuum to the 2-1/2-inch port on the rear of the saw base. We think this is a great saw at a great price, and both the professional and the exacting do-it-yourselfer will be really pleased with it.–Kris Jensen-Van Heste

table saw – Sam Murphy – windsor, vt
This saw is awesome. It might not be a cabinet saw but your also not gonna find a cabinet saw for this price. It has plenty of power and is very accurate. It only took me a few minutes to set it up when i got it. I would definitely buy it again
You get what you pay for – wiredweird – Earth, or somewhere nearby
This isn’t a ,000 saw or a ,500, saw, it’s a $ saw, at least where I bought it. Set your expectations accordingly.
Positives: Adequate results, as long as you don’t expect the sawn edge to be smooth. It’s affordable and easily capable of more than the factory configuration.
Negatives: Lots, including the throat plate. I imagine I can shim it up flush, but haven’t taken the time yet, and it’s nowhere near tight enough for really thin cuts. BTW, a throat plate not flush to the table surface makes measuring the dado depths a royal pain – it’s trial and error, not machine tooling. Getting the splitter straight to the blade is time consuming and aggravating – and especially aggravating because I do so many rabbets and dadoes. Each one needs the guard off, and therefore (we’re good boys and girls, right?) back on again, with the same tedious alignment each time. The mechanism doesn’t hold the old alignment settings, they have to be redone each time. Also, I found the setup instructions for the table extension grossly inadequate. When I realized that I had not understood the incomprensible setup instructions correctly, I had to remove one of the end clips – and broke it in removing it, because it was engineered only for people who do everything perfectly the first time. Sorry, I’m just human. I know there’s an adjustment to get the blade parallel to the miter slot – when I get the right measuring tools, I’ll try to get all that straight.
I’m sure that, with a new blade, a half-day of fussing, and a lot of patience, I can get all the results I paid for from this tool. Still, I expect to spend a lot of time making up for my budget limitations. And that guard – well, I keep telling myself I really should use it, when applicable, but it keeps arguing against me. Going through all that again, every time I need the guard on again after being off, seems more than daunting. I’m pretty sure the Hitachi lawyers added it to the parts list, not the engineers.
I’m not an advanced woodworker, so I’ll use this saw and enjoy it, to a point. Still, it will help me look forward to that day when I decide to trade up.
– wiredweird
(PS: One of the attachment screws in the throat plate was so glued in place with black paint that I stripped the Phillips part of the Phillips/straight head trying to unscrew it the first time. Grr.)

Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Charger for 7-1/2-to-18-Volt Ni-Cad Ni-Mh Lithium-Ion Batteries Review

I don’t think there is another charger for the Hitachi Li Ion batteries, but this charger is pretty sophisticated compared to others. First of all it’s huge compared to my NiCad chargers of various brands (Milwaukee, DeWalt, PC), but it has many features they don’t. It manages its temperature quite carefully, partially out of necessity because of the sensitivity of the new battery technologies, but also because they just chose to do it right. I know a few other brands basically just spit out a charger with their LiIon and just tell you to be careful not to overheat your batteries or leave them in too long. There is a fan — that is quite loud — that whirls up to speed to keep things cool as it charges.
My only complaints are the size, which is a problem when you have a lot of chargers to tote from job to job, and the noise which is really only a problem if you have to work in a quiet area.
Another thing to consider is that the charger itself can be overheated. You are supposed to let it sit for 15 minutes between charging batteries, which I have probably violated without incident, but it’s something to note. It also would be nice if it charged the neat little 3.6v screwdriver battery so I don’t have to tote around yet another charger.
The attention they put into the charger and batteries show that Hitachi just went a few steps further than other companies with their Li Ion adoption and didn’t just force the new technology into the old systems. For instance, the controller that shuts off the batteries before they die on most of their tools is not duplicated by most competitors.

Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Charger for 7-1/2-to-18-Volt Ni-Cad Ni-Mh Lithium-Ion Batteries Overview

Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Charger for 7-1/2-to-18-Volt Ni-Cad Ni-Mh Lithium-Ion Batteries Specifications
The Hitachi UC18YRL Universal Battery Charger is designed to recharge the Hitachi EBM1830 HXP Battery. And for added flexibility and convenience, this charger can also recharge other compatible 7.2-18 volt, Lithium-Ion, NiCd and NiMH batteries. It is important to fully charge your battery before attempting to use it in your power tools. To use your UC18YRL charger properly, connect the charger power cord to the base and then insert the battery into the charger. Position the battery so that the nameplate faces toward the nameplate of the charger and press the battery into place until it comes into full contact with the bottom plate. Inserting the battery turns the charger on, and the pilot lamp should light up red. If the pilot lamp does not light up, pull out the power cord from the base and check the battery mounting condition. Once your battery is fully charged, the pilot lamp will slowly blink red and you’re battery will be ready to use. In general, the UC18YRL should charge your battery in 20-45 minutes depending on the type of battery (the Hitachi EBM1830 charges in 45 minutes). Although the variation is minor, ambient temperature above or below room temperature may effect recharging time.
Added flexibility and convenience allows this charger to recharge other compatible 7.2-18 volt Lithium Ion NiCd and NiMH batteries. |
Universal charger charges 7.2 volt to 18 volt Hitachi Lithium-Ion batteries as well as NiCd and NiMH batteries of same voltage. |
HXP batteries have a low power discharge while in storage. |
Recharging New Batteries: What to Expect
The internal chemical substance of new batteries and batteries that have not been used for an extended period is not activated, thus the electric discharge might be low when using them the first or second time. This is a temporary phenomenon and is not cause for alarm. The normal time required for recharging will be restored by recharging the battery 2-3 times.
How to Make Your Battery Perform Longer
The best way to take full advantage of your charger, and maximize the life of your battery, is to follow two easy steps. First, remember to recharge your battery before it becomes completely exhausted. When you feel that the power of the tool becomes weaker, stop using the tool and recharge the battery. If you continue to use the tool and exhaust the electric current, the battery may be damaged and its life will become shorter. Secondly, you should always avoid recharging your batteries at high temperatures. A rechargeable battery will be hot immediately after use. If a battery is recharged while it’s still hot, its internal chemical substance will deteriorate, and the battery life will be shortened.

Old Fart has to replace charger thrown away by accident. – Kenneth Burdwood – Clifton TX
My order was shipped and received right on time and it works as advertized. The White House doesn’t do that anymore.
my review – Dave Campbell – tennessee
this charger will charge almost any type of battery as long as the battery will fit in the hole. This charger is really made for Hitachi batteries not batteries made by black and decker or sears.
Great charger – vk – TN
This charger works great and I was shocked at how inexpensive it is for as many batteries as it charges. While it is rather loud from the fan I think the extra safety is a great trade-off. I was also very pleased with the service from Hardware Sales Inc and received the item very promptly. I’d really give it a 4 1/2 rating if available.
